16th April 2012
I hope you all had a relaxing break and an opportunity to recharge your batteries over the holiday.

Sporty Disco
Thank you to everyone who supported this, we raised a wonderful £185! It was a fun evening, we particularly enjoyed Mr. Horn on the Karaoke! In fact, the Karaoke was such a success we may consider hosting a family Karaoke evening in the future.

Model Making Challenge
Don’t forget to hand in your transport models, we can’t wait to see them!

Clubs, Term 5
Just to remind you that clubs will start again next week. We will send a letter out with details later on this week.

Annual Report to Parents
Tonight we will be sending home a copy of your child’s annual Record of Attainment. We send this home at this point, because we feel it gives us the opportunity to address any issues raised before the end of the school year. An update will be sent out in July with end of year levels of attainment.

Reception pupils will receive their full report at the end of the year.

If there is anything you wish to discuss with the class teacher as a result of the report, please contact them directly for an appointment. We have time available this Thursday in addition to the usual Wednesday afternoons.

There will also be an opportunity in Term 6 to come into school to meet with the teachers and celebrate your child’s achievements.

Olympic Torch Relay
We have a lot of exciting events lined up to mark the 2012 Olympics. One of these takes place on 26th April, when we will be taking part in the Ashford District Torch Relay. Schools in the area will be passing a torch on, from school to school, and our school will be receiving it for the final leg of its journey.

Charity Appeals
It is possible that some of you may remember an ex pupil of Bethersden School, Shaun Clayton. He is now an amateur writer who has signed up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for the charity Childreach International. If any of you are interested in helping him raise money, or would like to find out more, you can log on to the charities website www.childreach.org.uk or contact me and I will put you in touch with Shaun. He and his friend are attempting their climb in August this year.

And many of you will remember Mrs Carlton, she is also challenging herself to raise money, this time for the charity Oxfam:

The ‘Trailwalker Gurkha Challenge’ is to walk 100 kilometres (62 miles) in 30 hours across the South Downs. Myself and three friends have formed a team, The Up and Downers, and have entered this challenge.
We are hoping to raise £1500 for the charity Oxfam.
It's an epic journey which we are undertaking over the weekend of the 14th/15th July 2012.
Trailwalker was first held 31 years ago as a training exercise for the Queen's Gurkha Signals in Hong Kong. We therefore have the support and guidance of the Gurkhas on the challenge.
Please help to support us by donating to this worthwhile cause. You can do this by logging on to www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/theupanddowners
Thank You
Karen

Key Stage 1 and 2 SATS
Pupils in Year 2 will be taking their SATS during May, these are fairly low key and the children may not even realise that they have been tested!

It is a bit more formal for Year 6, they are tested under exam conditions during the week beginning 14th May. As usual we will be offering a free Breakfast Club for the Year 6s during this time. More details will follow.

We are not able to authorise any absence for Year 2 and 6 pupils during these times.
